You may have heard about the incident that occurred at Deer Creek Middle School in the Jefferson County School District.  Our hearts go out to those affected by this event. 

Even though this did not happen in one of our schools, news of this nature may be disturbing for students. If your children express concern, please reassure them that they are safe.

Please know that our staff members are committed to keeping our school safe and providing your children the best education possible.  In the event of an emergency, APS and Lansing Elementary School have strong safety measures in place:

• Current lockdown and evacuation plans
• Regular lockdown and evacuation drills
• Strong visitor management policies
• Security cameras in strategic places
• Participation in emergency drills with local agencies

In the event of a school emergency, we will use our messaging system to reach parents via phone, e-mail, and text message.  Please be sure that we have your current contact information on file.

Tal vez se han enterado del incidente que ocurrió en la secundaria Deer Creek Middle School en el distrito escolar de las escuelas públicas del condado de Jefferson. Nos da mucha lástima los que han sido afectados por este evento.

Aunque esto no sucedió en una de nuestras escuelas, noticias de este tipo pueden ser inquietantes para estudiantes. Si sus hijos expresan alguna inquietud, por favor asegúrenles que ellos están seguros.

Por favor estén conscientes de que los miembros de nuestro personal están comprometidos a mantener nuestra escuela en forma segura y a proveerles a sus hijos la mejor educación posible. En caso de alguna emergencia, el distrito escolar APS y la escuela Lansing tienen establecidos firmes medidas de seguridad:

• Planes, actualizados, para cierres de emergencia y evacuaciones de planteles
• Ejercicios regulares de cierres de emergencia y evacuaciones de planteles
• Firmes políticas en cuanto a la administración de visitantes
• Cámaras de seguridad en lugares estratégicos
• Participación en ejercicios de emergencias en conjunto con agencias locales

En caso de una emergencia en la escuela, usaríamos nuestro sistema de mensajes para comunicarnos con padres de estudiantes por teléfono, correo electrónico y mensajes de texto. Por favor asegúrense que tengamos su información de contacto, actualizada, registrada con nosotros.

On Friday, January 22, Lansing had a "Snowflake Shake" Dance. Lots of parents and their children enjoyed dancing to fun music led by Lisa Stephenson, and munched on food brought in by Noodles & Co. Also, Doug and Jan Dunn dished up nachos to people in a line that didn't let up 'til the very end!

Thanks to PALS for organizing this and, especially Kelly and Steve McCartney for all their work before, during and after.

Special thanks to our Lansing parents who donated 240 juice boxes! PALS purchased the nachos and cookies that were included in the $1.00 ticket price.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Beginning fall 2009, Lansing Elementary will have a uniform dress policy.

During the 2008-09 school year we asked parents and staff about the idea of having a Uniform Dress Policy. Our parent committee, PALS, (People Advocating for Lansing Students) and accountability members approved having a uniform dress policy for our new school year. Click the link below for examples of clothing options.

Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 5, and students will be expected to wear appropriate school attire.

  Clothing choices are:

Ø      Tops – solid colors: White, Light Blue, Dark Blue, or Maroon with collars. Polo style or button up button up blouse or dress shirt.

Ø      Bottoms – Pants solid colors: Khaki, Blue, or Black.  No jeans and no sweats.

Ø      Capris, skirts, skorts, shorts, and jumpers – solid colors: Khaki, Blue, or Black, no jeans and not sweats. The length of skirts, skorts, and shorts should reach the finger-tips with arms hanging by the sides of his/her body.

Ø      Shoes – appropriate shoes for physical education and no flip-flops or sandals with out a back strap.

Ø      Students may wear any combination of the above, on any day of the week.

Ø      Items may be purchased at any local store such as Kmart, Target, Wal-Mart, J.C. Penney’s, Old Navy, etc., or from any second-hand store as long as they are in good condition.

Clothing Regulations: 

Ø      No logos

Ø      The 4 Bs: No belly, breast, back, or buttocks can be showing.

Ø      All clothing needs to be size appropriate…No Sagging.

Ø      All tops tucked in except sweatshirts.  Sweatshirts must be White, Light Blue, Dark Blue, or Maroon. No hoodies will be allowed in the building.

It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure their child follows this uniform dress code.  Students not dressed accordingly are expected to contact parents and change clothes.

Lansing is a professional place and we strive to maintain a friendly learning environment. We believe this uniform dress code policy will enhance our school community.
